Egg Hunt Art Collab
Donoshi the YoshiWelcome to the info page for the Egg Hunt Collab of 2023! This is similar to the Secret Santa done last year, except this time with an Egg Hunt theme, and you can choose to do a solo submission!
You can choose this time to either
- Do a secret Santa-style exchange, where you will get a random gift art of your character while you make gift art for another random user
- Create your own custom artwork of your OC to be placed on the image (solo submission)
This allows for more flexibility and less stress for those who may not want to draw for someone else, although you would be missing out on a free gift! You can also do both (with separate OCs)
The time to complete the image has been extended to a month, as there is a little more this time. Not only will it need to be at least flat colored, but it will need some kind of background element as well.
The subject is to draw the character searching for or finding an egg, hidden in some kind of background object that fits a snow theme. For example, the character could be looking under a rock and finding an egg, or looking around, missing the egg hidden in a bush. Specifics will be detailed below.
If you are interested, DM Donoshi on Discord, Twitter, or leave a reply on Twitter, YoshiArtists, or Yoshi Family letting them know you are able to participate, and include a reference to your OC. Also feel free to ask any questions, and a FAQ is included at the end of this document.
Your assigned seeker and OC (if doing the exchange) will be revealed on March 1st. The deadline to submit your artwork is March 31st. The final image, which I will edit together your submissions and paint a background for, will be revealed on April 9th, 2023
Details for submission:
- Artists of all skill levels are welcome!
- Must be a Nintendo species OC. The majority will probably be Yoshis, so be comfortable with that, but any non-human Nintendo species is welcome
- There must be at least flat color, but shading is recommended
- Digital art recommended, as these will be spliced and cropped together, but traditional art is also okay. 3D art is also acceptable as long as you make the models yourself, and are not just posing existing models.
- The theme for any background elements is snow. The background I will be drawing will be a snowy forest, so ideally your background elements should fit in there.
- Background should be transparent if possible, and any snow drawn on the ground must have the base color of pure white (#FFFFFF), at the very least on the edges of the ground drawn. Of course you can mix in whatever colors your want to make the ground look like snow, but it should be able to blend into pure white
- The image must include your assigned player’s OC (if doing the gift exchange, otherwise your own character), they must appear to be searching or finding something, it must include a colorful egg, and that colorful egg must be hidden in, behind, or otherwise hidden near that object. For example, the egg could be hidden in a bush or under a rock. But being creative and coming up with new places an egg could be hidden in a snowy forest is the ideal!
- Your image may be adjusted, such as being scaled up or down to fit in with certain places on the snowy forest background better
FAQ:
- I can’t make a transparent background, can I still participate? Yes! I will be editing the images to make them fit with the overall snowy background
- Can I do both the solo submission and gift exchange? Yes, but only if you use separate OCs for each, so we don’t have duplicates on the final
- Can I do a different biome besides “snow?” No, it needs to be able to fit into the larger image
- Can I post my submission before the final image’s release? If it is a gift for someone, that must be kept a secret until the reveal. If it’s a solo submission, you can post it whenever you want.
- Does the egg the character is searching for need to be a certain color? No, you can have it be whatever color or paint scheme you like, just as long as it's still an egg!
If you have any questions, please message Donoshi or post your questions on the #art-events channel of Yoshi Family!
