Personality

Fantom is known to be very friendly and kind, helping others in need and loves to make friends. You’ll always see her with a smile on her face, no matter where she is. She respects other people’s opinions and private bubbles, and leaves them alone if wished. She never pushes others to do what she wants, and usually leaves them some time. Of a more brave nature, she is not afraid to speak what’s on her mind or stand up for herself. Fantom also is rarely ever seen angry, but when she is, it’s better to not stand in her way. Not that she’s going to hurt someone, but the glare she gives you would send shivers down your spine. Sometimes curious, she would approach certain unknown things, sometimes getting into trouble because of it.

In racing and other games, she never strikes first, and usually is VERY peaceful and is not aggressive or competitive at all. The only time she’ll use items is if others throw theirs at her first. She might even let them win a race if they do not attack her, and may even let them win a Star in Mario Party!

In private life, Fantom shows to be very cuddly and an adorable love ball! She loves hugs and would give free hugs to anyone she trusts. But she can also sometimes be a little of a troll, and her favorite activity is to “yoink” her boyfriend’s cap and jacket! What a little gremlin!

Story

Fantom has a rather tragic yet interesting backstory. It all started when her egg hatched. Her father, named Hocho, was the only one who could take care of her, since her mother passed away even before she was born. Fantom first lived on Yoshi’s Island before moving to the Mushroom Kingdom when she reached 4 years old. She and her father found home in the lovely town of Toad Town. It was then that she found interest in racing after seeing her father race on the TV. Since then she always told him she wanted to grow to be just like him, and he always rubbed her head and chuckled saying he’d be very proud if she did.

A few years later, Fantom was watching her father race on the TV while being supervised by a family of Koopas, which were friends of Hocho’s. She shared a good connection with a small green Koopa Troopa named Koopper. They both loved to watch Hocho racing on the TV, but that day was going to be the last time they ever see him. As the race went on, a Spiny Shell was sent on the racing track, dashing fast around the track to find and target Hocho. Fantom knew her dad could quickly recover from the hit, like he always did. But this time, what happened left her speechless and heartbroken. Instead of protecting her father from the hit, the bike he was riding exploded upon impact with the Spiny Shell, causing debris to fall all around the track and causing the whole race to come to an end. She knew her father didn’t survive this, and she knew this was not normal. But she couldn’t focus her mind on anything else than the TV, and immediately bursted out sobbing. Her father’s death made her extremely depressed, and she no longer had interest in racing…

Until it was revealed that the protection on her father’s bike was removed on purpose by one of his lifetime rival, who was arrested immediately after. It slightly helped her recover from the shock, but as months passed, she slowly but surely fully recovered. She remembered times with her dad, and she remembers him saying he would be proud of her if she became a racer. And so, with a determined look on her face, she looked outside the window, promising her father that she would honor him and continue his career.

Not long after did she join the racing community. She was quickly recognized as Hocho’s daughter as most fans knew he had a daughter. In the beginning, it was hard, and she never won any Tournaments, but her determination was huge, and only a year later, she won her first Tournament, after months and months of training, and alongside that, became a well known racing legend, the one who made a myth come true. She was the first racer to ever dodge a Spiny Shell with a Mushroom. This became a huge history in the MKRC. Everyone knew her by the journals, and her adoptive family itself was more than proud of what she achieved. She is certain her father is also proud of her too. And now, she continues to race and learn, and perhaps, maybe someday you’ll race alongside her and her trusty P-Wing!

Abilities and Skills

Intelligence: Fantom is smart and can quickly learn the environment around her, using it to her advantage. She knows what threats are, and knows how to trust someone or not. While not being good at building traps, she is formidable in terms of quickly thinking of an idea to stop a criminal.

Raw Strength: Not being the muscular type and being rather small for a Yoshi, Fantom can easily be overtaken by stronger than her. Due to her size also, she cannot carry a full grown Yoshi on her back, which is limited to a fully grown Koopa only. However she is able to carry heavy bags to her home without the need of her Kart.

Formidable Racer: Known as a racing legend in the Mushroom Kingdom, Fantom zooms past the racing tracks faster than the eye can follow. Her popularity grew as high as it could after performing a racing myth: The Spiny Shell Dodge. She participates in many Tournaments and comes out on the podium most of the time!

Egg Bomb: Just like all Yoshi’s, Fantom can lay eggs overtime and use them as projectiles. Surprisingly, when used as projectiles, the eggs create a small sparkly explosion, dealing very little damage. But they can be used as recipes, which Altair seems to find strange for some reason.

Other: Fantom also owns the normal abilities that Yoshi’s have, a tongue shot to grab and eat things or to simply bring items to her if necessary. Or the Flutter jump to allow her to reach higher grounds. Combine this with her wings and she can jump slightly higher than normal Yoshi’s. This also allows her to slow down her falls, saving her from possible broken bones.

Weaknesses

Malformed Wings: Fantom’s parents didn’t have wings, but she earned them from her ancestors. Although, she is the only one in her whole family tree to not be able to fly with her wings. She had a disability that caused her wings to never grow to their full size, making her unable to fly. Though she is not bothered by it, as she can still flap them and does not feel any pain whatsoever.

Small Spaces: Fantom is absolutely terrified of small spaces. When she was younger, she got trapped in a box and couldn’t get out for hours. If she wouldn’t have been found by Koopper’s mother when she returned from work, she probably could have died in the box. Since then, she has had a deep fear of small spaces, but if someone she knows is with her, then she will be more calm.

Fantom’s name comes from the word “Fantôme” which is the French word of “Ghost”.

Her favorite color is Purple.

She was based on the White Yoshi from Mario Kart 8.

Her previous appearance was her being a Black Yoshi, but changed it to a White Yoshi to fit her name.
